1/16/17 God’s Grace Supercedes His Law

“It is not by anything that they have done that this remnant of Israel remains faithful to God.  It is by God’s grace.  God grants His grace and mercy to those He knows have hearts willing to receive it.  If people could receive their salvation through perfect adherence to the Law, there would have been no need for Jesus to die for us.  And there cannot be salvation based on the Law and on God’s grace, because they contradict each other.  The majority of Israel is still trying to get to God through the Law, and so they will never reach their goal.  Their single-mindedness is blinding them to the new path God has opened up for them.  As the Scripture tells us, ‘God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, to this very day.’  And in the Psalms, ‘Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a recompense to them.  Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, and bow down their back always.’”

Romans 11:6-10, Deuteronomy 29:4, Isaiah 29:10, Psalm 69:22-23
