1/14/17 Haven’t They Heard?

“So in order for people to believe in Jesus and receive the gift of salvation from the penalty for their sins that He offers, they must first hear the message that He came to deliver to us, and that He has commanded us to carry all over the world.  Sadly, most of Israel has not believed the message of Jesus.  Isaiah prophesied that Israel would not believe, saying, ‘Lord who has believed our report?’  Is it because they have not heard the message?  No, because as the psalm prophesied, ‘Their sound has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.’  But perhaps they didn’t know that the Messiah would come first for them, and then for the Gentiles as well?  No, again.  Moses wrote, ‘I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation, I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.’  These terms, ‘not a nation,’ and ‘a foolish nation,’ are both very familiar to Israel, because this is how they regard the Gentiles, who they see worshipping man-made objects instead of the true God.  And Isaiah wrote the words spoken to him by God, saying, ‘I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.’  Then, Isaiah wrote the words of God to Israel, ‘All day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people.’  Yes, Israel has had every opportunity to hear and believe, and yet they have closed themselves off to the truth.”
