1/5/17 God’s Mercy Given To The People He Knows Will Accept It

“It isn’t because God’s word is not powerful enough to convince the Jews that Jesus is the true Messiah.  Remember, not everyone who calls himself an Israelite is in fact a true Israelite, nor are all descendants of Abraham.  God told Abraham that His promise was to be fulfilled through Isaac, not through Ishmael.  Those who are descendants of Abraham but not of Isaac are not counted as children of God, only those of the promise, those of Isaac’s line, are counted as children of God.  God promised Sarah, Abraham’s wife, ‘At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.’  It is not because of anything that Isaac or Ishmael did or didn’t do that God made this choice, though that may seem to be the case.  When Isaac married Rebecca and she was carrying twins in her womb, God chose Jacob over Esau before either of them had been born, and before either of them could make any choices for good or bad.  God said to Rebecca before the twins were born, ‘The older shall serve the younger,’ and later He said, ‘Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.’  Not true hatred in the way that one person may hate another, but simply choosing to give the inheritance to one instead of the other.  This He did to show that nothing we can do or refrain from doing can save us; it is only by God calling us and extending His mercy to us that we are saved from our sins.”
