8/5/16 Wisdom Comes From Following Jesus

“I don’t want any of you to be confused about this.  If any of your brothers or sisters believes himself to have wisdom, or if any of you believes him to have wisdom, it is better that he becomes like a foolish person in the eyes of the world, because only then may he truly become wise.  As I have told you already, what the world considers wise God considers foolishness.  In the book of Job, it says, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness,’ and one of the Psalms tells us, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.’  So if you would be wise, don’t take pride in what you can do of yourself.  Pride is a dangerous thing, because it blinds us to the path of danger that we are walking.  And as for those who have been your teachers in the faith, everything that we do is for your benefit, collectively.  We are not competing, one against another, to try to gain your loyalty for ourselves.  All that we have said and done for you was to bring you closer to Jesus and to our Father in Heaven.  It does not matter if you learn from Paul, or Apollos, or Peter, or from Jesus Himself, because we are all working together to help you grow in your faith.  You belong to Jesus, our Messiah, and He belongs to God the Father.  That is what you should focus on, instead of splitting into groups to follow one person or another.  Simply follow Jesus.”
